Our staff mean a great deal to us. They are the people that our clients see and interact with on a daily basis. They are the people that work so hard to ensure all your furry friends are happy, healthy and well looked after.
One of our amazing members of staff, Reena Patel, recently reached a very impressive milestone. Reena has now worked as a vet with Medivet for 10 years! And, all up, she has spent a total of 19 years with us!
Reena has had an interesting journey with us on her path to becoming a vet. She joined Medivet in 1996 as a part-time receptionist in our Hendon Branch. While in this role, she studied to become a veterinary nurse. Once Reena had qualified, she became a Medivet practice nurse.
But from a very young age Reena’s dream had been to become a vet. Her passion for animals was not dented by the fact that she grew up in a household without any pets, as her mother feared animals.
Reena explains, “There were no animals in our family home when I was growing up but, for as long as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to be a vet. I always looked forward to visiting friends who had pets and anywhere else that I could see and interact with animals.”
After becoming a nurse, Reena went on to study for her veterinary degree. She now works as a vet in our Medivet Pinner practice where she is also the branch partner.
In addition to her amazing career journey with us, Reena has also made regular appearances on Blue Peter and CBeebies throughout the years, providing invaluable animal welfare advice and inspiration to youngsters all over the country.
Speaking about what her role on Blue Peter entails, Reena says, “I check the Blue Peter pets’ general health which includes looking in their ears and eyes, checking their teeth and mouth, listening to their heart and lungs and feeling their bellies. I also check the condition of their skin and hair. I make sure that the team are feeding and exercising the pets correctly and that all the pets are being well looked after. This isn’t hard as the Blue Peter team are fantastic pet owners!”
On fulfilling her lifelong dream of becoming a vet and spending her career with Medivet, Reena says, “Working at Medivet is not only a job for me. I feel like part of the family and have had the opportunity to work within the partnership at many different levels (receptionist, nurse, vet and now partner). Medivet allows me to practice veterinary medicine at the highest level and to continue my own personal development with the assistance of all my experienced colleagues around me.”
