Helping Overseas Vets Work in the UK

Overseas Vets Header

Are you an overseas vet looking for a new opportunity with one of the largest veterinary partnerships in the UK? You are in the right place!

Medivet is an accredited A-rated sponsor under the UK Home Office points-based immigration system, which means we are entitled to issue Certificates of Sponsorship to veterinary surgeons who are not UK or EU citizens or entitled to reside and work in the UK. This is subject to you meeting all the criteria for the issue of a Certificate of Sponsorship, including being eligible to register as a veterinary surgeon with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons upon arrival in the UK.

If you would like to move to the UK and work as a veterinary surgeon, and you are not a UK or EU citizen or entitled to reside and work in the UK, you will generally need a Tier 2 (General) Visa, which would allow you to work for a specific employer in the UK for the duration specified in the Tier 2 (General) Visa.

You can apply for a Tier 2 (General) visa if:

  • You have been offered a skilled job in the UK
  • You are from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland

To find out more about the Tier 2 (General) visa with regards to how long it takes, the fees and what you can and can’t do, please visit the GOV.UK website.

After working in the UK for five years, you should be entitled to apply for settlement (UK permanent residence) which would then allow you to work for an employer or to be self-employed.
