Tom Evans - Partner and Veterinary Surgeon
Having always wanted to be a vet, I trained at the University of Bristol, graduating in 2006 with Honours with a Veterinary degree and an intercalated degree in Veterinary Pathogenesis. I spent several years in mixed practice in East Sussex before deciding to focus purely on small animals (dogs, cats, small furries), working in the Midlands and Merseyside. I joined Medivet in 2013, becoming Partner and Head Vet at Medivet St. Helens. In 2012 I gained a post-graduate certificate in Small Animal Medicine and have particular interests in ultrasonography and surgery. I spend most of my spare time with my wife, young daughter and 2 Yellow Labradors called Stan and Alfie. I am a keen marathon runner and also enjoy playing football.
Paola Rigo – Veterinary Surgeon
I qualified as a veterinary surgeon in April 2015 and graduated from the University of Pisa, Italy with a post-graduate certificate in Small Animal Surgery. Before joining Medivet, I worked in Italy for many small animal practices across the country. Two years ago, I moved to England for a new interesting job experience where I worked in a small veterinary practice in Leeds for a year and a half. My special areas of interest are surgery, radiography, and emergency and critical care. Unfortunately, I had to leave my Jack Russell, Mia, with my parents and all their dogs in Sicily but I miss her so much. In my free time, I enjoy exploring the UK with my partner, reading books or watching movies, as well as cooking with my partner and trying out different recipes.
Lydia Cooke - Head Veterinary Nurse
I qualified as a vet nurse in 2002 and spent 4 years working in small animal practice in the Manchester area, I then decided to specialise in dermatology and spent 7 years in referral practice dealing with skin and ear disease. I joined the Medivet team as head nurse in 2013 and am enjoying the variety the position brings whilst maintaining a strong enthusiasm for spots, scabs and ear goo! Outside of work I am a keen musician and enjoy playing in a band as much as possible. I live with my boyfriend who is also a vet nurse and my cat Tye, who is a little bit mad!
Martyn Harper - Veterinary Nurse
I've worked for Medivet since 2012. I've had a passion to work with animals all my life, and began by completing my Animal Care Level One and Two. I became a fully qualified veterinary nurse in May 2016, I can't wait to further my career with Medivet. I have a big cat called Duke who is so laid back and so lovable. My interests outside of work include football and rugby league.
Samantha Abbott – Student Veterinary Nurse
After graduating from Liverpool John Moores University with a degree in Zoology, I joined the Medivet St Helens team. Originally, I started as a Patient Care Assistant before recently becoming a Student Veterinary Nurse. I am really enjoying my training so far as it gives me the opportunity to work with a variety of animals, which is something I have always wanted to do. I have a rescue cat named Penny who I met at the Boote Home for Cats where I volunteer most weekends. In my spare time I enjoy going to comic conventions with my husband and friends.
Leah Foynes – Student Veterinary Nurse
I have always loved animals and decided a few years ago that I wanted to become a veterinary nurse. Before joining Medivet, I worked at Vets Now as an animal care assistant and studied Animal Management in college. I hope to progress into veterinary nursing with the training Medivet provide. I have a Maltipoo called Bella who is my baby, she is quite spoilt but is a lovely little, very friendly girl! In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family and friends as well as travelling, I love to go and visit new places!
