Meet our friendly team of vets, nurses and receptionists. All of our staff aim to deliver the highest standards of veterinary care backed up by a personal and caring attitude to both owners and patients.
As well as our permanent staff at Southwark, we also have a team of mobile staff who work in several Medivet practices. View a list of our mobile staff members who may work at Islington from time to time.
Giacomo Uva – Veterinary Surgeon
I was awarded my Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Milan University in 2007. As a new graduate I spent two years gaining experience in 24 hour emergency care hospitals before deciding to move to the UK in 2009. My first UK role was in Swindon where I completed a rotational internship. Since then I have worked in practices in Oxford and London before joining the Medivet family in Southwark in March 2015. Currently I am working to further develop my skills in Orthopaedics and Ophthalmology though most areas of medicine and surgery interest me. In my free time I very much enjoy playing and coaching basketball. I love to cook and try, whenever possible, to take opportunities to travel.
Raquel Martinez Carballo – Veterinary Surgeon
I qualified as a veterinary surgeon and graduated from the University of Cordoba, Spain in 2013. Whilst studying for my degree, I worked as intern student in the Department of Small Animal Medicine and Surgery. During the last term of my degree, I moved to Germany, to work at the University Hospital of Hannover, where I gained valuable experience in the treatment of ruminants, horses and small animals. I then moved to the UK to work in first-opinion practices and hospitals before starting an internship programme at a veterinary referral hospital near Wales.
I enjoy all disciplines of small animal care, but have a particular interest in orthopaedics. At home, I have two beautiful cats called Picasso and Nara as well as a dog called Maya. I am very fond of my dog Keko whom I’ve had for 9 years! In my free time I enjoy riding, going for countryside or seaside walks, and travelling. I really enjoy getting to know new people and new cultures!
Debbie Jones – Head Veterinary Nurse
I knew I wanted to be a Veterinary Nurse early in life and qualified in the 1980’s. I have lived in the South East London area for over 25 years and love my local community. I find my profession to be highly rewarding. I have a special interest in feline behaviour and minimising stress at home for cats. At home I have two wonderful cats of my own.
Sue Kelly – Patient Care Assistant
I began working in the veterinary field in 1986, having always wanted to work with animals. I have completed training in animal behaviour and enjoy applying these skills in practice. I have lived all my life in Southwark and I enjoy being a part of the local community. I really value the relationships with our clients that I have developed over the years. Outside of work, my dog Flora and my 2 cats, Hewie and Staffy, keep me out of trouble.
Cheery Leahair - Patient Care Assistant
I completed 2 years studying for a BTEC in animal care/management at Bromley College and achieved an overall MPP (merit, pass, pass). I then went on to study for a degree in management in companion and zoo animals. I am enjoying working at Medivet and in the future I hope to become a veterinary nurse.
Michelle Benson – Cattery Assistant
I achieved a Level Three in Animal Management from Capel Manor in Enfield. Before joining Medivet, I was working in health and safety for Network Rail and LUL. I am animal mad and have always wanted to work in animal conservation, which I am hoping to do once I have completed my degree. In my spare time, I work with snow leopards and other large cat breeds. I am a cat lover and at home I have twenty one cats!
Lisa Bridges – Client Care Assistant
I began working Medivet Southwark at the end of September 2014. The practice was my local vet to my sweet griffin terrier before I joined the practice as a client care assistant. I look forward to meeting you and your pets in practice.
Josephine Ruddock – Client Care Assistant
I completed my BSc in Animal Science in 2012. Before joining Medivet, I worked for a London charity, Age UK. I am excited to now join the Medivet team at Southwark. I thoroughly enjoy greeting and getting to know each new animal that visits our practice. At home, I have a French bulldog named Buster as well as a rescued cat called Comfort. In my free time, I enjoy visiting my family and friends as well as walking the dog. I look forward to meeting you and your pet!
